For us, both Dzul & I, this will be the longest hours of fasting in Ramadhan we’ve ever experienced (~3am till 9pm for the first few days of Ramadhan). However, insyaAllah the long hours will not deter us from fulfilling our other obligations, as parents, students, and His servants.
Well, a few tips (I know these are well known tips, but guess a little reminder won’t hurt) how to get through the long hours without food & drink:
- Drink a lot of water in between iftar & sahur. If possible, drink up to 8 glasses of water. I repeat, IF POSSIBLE. Do not drink the whole 8 glasses at once or within short time, but over the 3-4 hours (tolak time tidur before sahur;) ).
- Eat lightly during iftar. Besides to avoid being lazy and sleepy for maghrib, isya & terawih prayers, it could facilitate you getting up for qiam al-layl & sahur.. and also leaves room for food to be taken during sahur, which is essential to provide energy throughout the day.
- No rigorous body workout, unless you’re capable of. (Fair enough!)
