Maulidur Rasul celebration this year will be more colourful

The national-level Maulidur Rasul celebration this year will be more colourful and interesting with more events being held by various organisations including the cycling, paramotor and superbike associations.

Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) Director-General Datuk Othman Mustapha said besides the procession on foot, other events would also be held in Putrajaya which would involve the air, land and water teams.

Among the teams involved are the high-powered motorcycle team, Kelab Motosikal 300KMJ, the cycling team from Persatuan Basikal Tua Batu Berendam Melaka, a paramotor group from the Malaysian Paramotor Association, a water boat team from Putrajaya Corporation and a Vespa procession by the Malaysian Vespa Association.

In addition, orphans from the Darul Fuqaha Orphanage, Sungai Merab will also be treated to a boat ride on the "Cruise Tasik Putrajaya", he said in a media statement, here today.

He said that 157 contingents involving 13,598 participants would join the celebration this time with the theme 'Moderation Is Key To Unity of the Ummah'.

Othman said the procession would be participated by 73 teams from government departments, 28 statutory bodies, 20 private bodies, 10 uniformed bodies, 10 schools, six institutions of higher learning (IPT) and four contingents from non-governmental organisations (NGOs) who would be flagged off by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom at 7.15am.

Othman said Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah were scheduled to attend and officiate the event.

The King would be accompanied by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and wife Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman, cabinet ministers and foreign diplomats.
